More visitors to Oden Preschool for Community Helper Week. Special thank you to Mrs. Linda Murphy for entertaining the students with her musical instruments and singing. And a special thank you to School Resource Officer Thompson and Highway Patrolman Jackson for visiting and allowing the students to explore their patrol vehicles. Flashing blue lights and speaking on the loud speaker were some of the highlights of the preschool excitement.

The Oden Kindergarten read the book Chrysanthemum in the library today. Chrysanthemum loves her name till she goes to school and is made fun of because it’s so long. Chrysanthemum learns how special her name is and she is proud of it. The kindergarten then used play-doh to practice writing their names after the read aloud!

AHS Parents: We have had several questions about intervention this year during 8th period. This year, intervention is a true, purposeful intervention. Purposeful intervention means that the needs of the students are met based upon missing or weak skills or standards. It is not about bad grades or needing homework help. The intervention teachers at Acorn High School have put together pretests to determine missing or weak skill areas and are actively teaching those specific skills and standards to our students during 8th period. The benefits of this, seen on scores so far, have been great! We continue to see growth, which is always the goal! The teachers are working hard to fill in the gaps. However, many of you have asked about homework help for your students, and we understand that completely. Everyone needs help occasionally. Homework help is available before school from 7:45-8:00 AM or after school. Any of our teachers will be glad to help, but that is not the purpose of 8th period this year.
