Acorn Students Learn About Fire Prevention & Careers In observance of Fire Prevention Week, October 9-15, 2022, the Mena Fire Department recently donated Fire Prevention booklets for Pre-K through 4th Grades to all local area schools including Acorn Elementary School. On Thursday, October 13, 2022, Mena Fire Department personnel shared information with Acorn High School students related to a variety of careers in fire science and emergency response situations. Representing Mena Fire Department personnel for the presentation included: Joe Quinn, Duane Harvey, Emory Zakin, and MFD Assistant Fire Chief Charles Hankins. They shared valuable information about careers, how to obtain certifications, training, and education for various occupations, and discussed scenarios that emergency personnel encounter as well as a tour of the fire truck and equipment utilized in emergency situations. Thank you, Mena Fire Department for an excellent presentation, demonstrations, and sharing testimonials of your own experiences in the field! Thank you to the Oden Volunteer Fire Department and Southwest EMS for visiting the Oden Preschool. Sirens blasting, Baby Shark on the loud speaker and shooting water across the parking lot was a learning experience that resulted in lots of smiles and laughter.
