AHS Nominates 2021 Delegates for Arkansas Girls and Boys State
Each year, Arkansas youth have an opportunity to be nominated and selected to participate as Arkansas Boys State and Girls State delegates in a weeklong, transformative program with their peers from around the State. The goal and purpose of the educational programs are to teach high school students through hands-on experience about civic responsibility, rights, privileges and duties. The programs are a collaborative partnership with high schools and the American Legion for Boys State and American Legion Auxiliary for Girls State. Acorn High School nominees for 2021 Arkansas Boys State is Justice Neufeld and for Arkansas Girls State is Raeghan Weddle. Congratulations, Justice and Raeghan!

**Acorn High School Announcement*
The Ouachita River School District supports all students through its mission to provide a safe, caring environment where everyone learns and grows in order to be prepared for life. A key component of the District’s mission is to participate in and provide assessments that support students’ learning, growth, and transitions.
Assessment, in general, means a procedure that is utilized to collect data or information about an individual and/or group to make informed decisions. Assessments can include, but are not limited to, screenings and in-depth assessments. The assessment process includes four important steps: 1) identify the problem, 2) select and implement assessment methods, 3) evaluate assessment information, and 4) report assessment results and make appropriate recommendations and/or referrals. The upcoming state-mandated assessment your child will be participating in is the ACT Aspire, which measures English, math, reading, science, and writing academic achievement administered to high school students in grades 7 through 10.
You are an important member of the collaborative team and partnership in your child’s experience at Ouachita River School District. One of the ways to help support your child’s experience and success on interim and annual assessments is to be informed about the assessment tool and how to be better prepared during the testing period. The ACT Aspire assessments align your child’s academic growth and readiness with their career goals.
The interim or practice assessments are being given this spring in preparation for the annual ACT Aspire assessments. The annual ACT Aspire assessments will be given April 13-15, 2021 on the AHS campus. Students in grades 7-10 will need to be ON CAMPUS for the tests administered April 13-15. Testing will begin promptly at 8:00 a.m. each testing day. STUDENTS MUST BRING THEIR CHROMEBOOK and CHROMEBOOK CHARGER to school each day for testing. The testing schedule will be as follows:
Tuesday, April 13
8:00 - 10:30 AM
Reading &
English
Wednesday, April 14
8:00 - 10:15 AM
Science & Writing
Thursday, April 15
8:00 - 9:45 AM
Math
Just a few tips to make this assessment experience the best it can be for your child:
Bring Chromebook to school campus each day, FULLY CHARGED and make sure both Chromebook and charger are brought to school each test day.
Please remind your child to get plenty of rest the night before the test.
ACT Aspire is a timed test. Be careful not to spend too much time on one question.
Go back and review the test if you finish and have time to spare.
You can find additional information about ACT Aspire assessment on the following website at https://www.discoveractaspire.org and please feel free to contact me if you have questions or need my assistance.
Sincerely,
Dewayne Taylor, AHS Principal
