Be Pro Be Proud brings Mobile Workshop to Ouachita River School District – Acorn & Oden campuses The Be Pro Be Proud Mobile Workshop will visit Acorn High School on Monday, May 9th and Oden High School on Wednesday, May 11th. The simulation workshops and tours will begin approximately 8:30 a.m. on each campus. The Arkansas State Chamber and its public and private partners launched Be Pro Be Proud in 2016 to address an expanding skills gap in professional trades across the state. Arkansas’s future will depend on changing the perception of these career options and efforts highlighting the many opportunities available within these sectors. The 12 in-demand professions that continue to be represented include truck driver; diesel tech; locomotive engineer; welder; machinist; computer numerical control (CNC) operator; tool and die maker; computer programmer; computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) drafter; heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVACR) tech; plumber; electrician and carpenter. “This is an exciting opportunity for our stakeholders. Ouachita River School District high schools are proud to be a collaborative partner in this movement to host the Be Pro Be Proud Mobile Workshops on each of our high school campuses –Acorn in Polk County and Oden in Montgomery County. Our students gain valuable information and experience relevant to careers and professions represented in the simulations. 8th grade Acorn Career Development completed a unit on careers last week. Each student chose a career they were interested in. They researched that career to create a “Pizza Box Career”. They were tasked with creating a 3D scene representing their career and all information discovered had to be placed in the lid of the pizza box. They were required to share information about the education required, skill set needed, yearly salary and benefits, job availability, demographics, ect. All students did an amazing job on their projects. Thank you to Simple Simons of Mena for donating the pizza boxes for this project.

Acorn Elementary 2022 Kindergarten Registration Tuesday, May 10th 9:00AM—2:00 PM Acorn Elementary Office (front office area) *Students already enrolled in Kathy Medford Preschool (Acorn Preschool) Program DO NOT need to attend this registration* Please bring the following items with you to registration to be copied: *Immunization record *Documentation of well-child physical (Within the last 2 years) *Official Birth Certificate *Social Security Card If you do not have one or more of these items, please plan to attend on May 10th to register your child so your child can be scheduled for their classroom for 2022-2023 year. ATTENTION - Preschool Registration at ORSD! The Oden ABC Preschool on the Oden Schools’ campus is now accepting applications for the 2022-2023 school year! Your child must be 3 years of age on or before the August 1, 2022 deadline. In order to complete registration, you must submit all of the following documentation: * Proof of Income (2021 tax information, if available) If not available or income changed from 2021 to current status due to a possible income change, a current month’s check stubs (30 days prior to date of application) may be accepted for proof of income. Due to program eligibility guidelines, proof of income from check stubs cannot be older than 30 days prior to application. If 2021 taxes are accurate, please provide a copy for proof of income. * Immunization Record - Must be current including 4-year old immunizations. If your child is 4 years of age by the date of the application, please make sure the immunization record submitted includes the current immunizations. * Birth Certificate * Social Security Card *Proof of Health Physical - physical within the past year will be sufficient until expiration - a physical is not required upon registration but needs to be done as soon as possible and proof submitted for enrollment to be processed. Without proof of physical, the student will be moved to the waiting list. *Utility Bill or Statement - verifying current address All documents listed above (in bold) are required to be submitted to process registration and enrollment.
