Acorn Elementary's First Grade classes had the opportunity to tour the Martin Marietta Quarry in Hatton to learn about; the types of rocks found in our area, the process of mining them, where the rocks are exported to, and how materials are used in areas around the country. Students also learned about the type of jobs available at the quarry, toured some of the equipment, and were able to see the area the crew is currently mining from. Thank you Martin Marietta Quarry for giving our students the opportunity to come tour and learn about important things that support future careers! #lifeprep

ORSD Spotlight on Alumni! Acorn High School Alumnus, Justice Neufeld is a sophomore at the University of Arkansas Little Rock and is a member of the UALR Trojan Men’s Cross Country Team. Justice received multiple awards in the Ohio Valley Conference. One as a member of the UALR Men’s Cross Country Team that received the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) Team Academic Achievement Award. Second, he is one of nearly 125 student athletes named to the 2022-2023 OVC Commissioner’s Honor Roll. Third, he is one of over 20 student-athletes who have been awarded the 2022-2023 Academic Medal of Honor from the Ohio Valley Conference that earned a 4.0 GPA for the year. Congratulations, Justice! ASU Visits AHS JRS and SRS On Tuesday, November 7th, Arkansas State University Admissions Counselor Gregory Hawkins met with Acorn High School juniors and seniors to provide an overview of ASU academic programs, scholarships and deadlines, student and campus life organizations, housing and dining options for students. AHS Students Tour UAFS Campus On Wednesday, November 1st, a group of Acorn High School juniors and seniors toured the University of Arkansas Fort Smith campus. The guided tour of the campus included a view of campus housing, dining, student union, health and wellness center, fine arts facilities, learning commons/library, health professions and many of the campus facilities and landmarks. Following the tour, UAFS Ambassadors provided a presentation and overview of UAFS admissions, academic programs, scholarships and deadlines, student and campus life organizations, housing and dining options for students. Prizes were given during the question and answer portion of the presentation. Thank you to the University of Arkansas Fort Smith ambassadors and admissions staff for a great tour and presentation! She is continuing her studies as a junior at UAFS and pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadership with a minor in Business Administration.
